Making entries in the Ship's Log
All classmates duly registered in the Ship's Log may post entries there and comment on existing entries. The way you post a new entry is to click the "Login" link at the Ship's Log and then complete login process.
When you have done so, you are taken to a "Dashboard" that has controls for you to Write posts, make comments on other posts and change your profile.
The Dashboard also has links to things such as "Add a link to your blogroll" and "Change your site's look or theme" that are choices not available to mortal users of the site (you'll have to talk to Master Davy Jones for that one.
Beneath the title (NHHS '62 Ship's Log) you will see four buttons. When you first login, you are taken by default to the Dashboard. Your other three choices are "Write, "Manage" and "Profile." The "Write" button beneath the title, and the "Write a post" link a little lower on the page accomplish the same thing: They take you to a form that allows you to write a new post.
The "Write Post" screen gives you many options. On the top part of the screen is a form to use for giving your post a title (headline) and then for actually writing the post. On the right hand side of the screen, are several collapsed menu tabs.
The most important menu tab for our purpose is the "Categories" tab. By default, your message will be labeled "Uncategorized." You should change this by checking the correct category (e.g., "Brags") and unchecking "Uncategorized."
Make sure you provide a short title, which shows up as a headline. In the "Post" box, write your message. The buttons on top of the "Post" box give you some text formatting options, explained in a separate document.
Publishing your message post
When you are done writing your post, you have three choices for dealing with the message. "Save and Continue Editing" does pretty much what it says. It saves your post on the server and returns you to the post editing box. If you click "Save" your message is saved and it disappears from the screen. Neither of these actions makes your post visible to the rest of your shipmates. Nobody else may read what you have written until you click the "Publish" button. When you do so, the message is saved and it is published in the Ship's Log. Then anyone else may read your post. Registered shipmates may comment on your post.
Adding an image to your post
You may include images (photos) with your post. This is done by using the form below the post entry form. It permits you to upload an image that you want to include with your post.
